Was torn between 2 or 3 stars. Gave the extra star for Cool location and live music. This is a beach front restaurant, thus high real estate cost and seasonal traffic = need to recoup costs via prices. My problem was with quality. Frozen tasting lobster in a lobster roll with bland sauce and a stale roll. Kids meal was penne pasta with cheese whiz. Other entrees looked factory made. Rice on the tuna roll was dry as though it was made the day before. All in all - edible, but would be better if they just stuck with bar food and did it well.
They have a nice long bar inside. There's also seating outside. Ocean views from just about any point are beautiful.
Another weird thing is that a 'Rum Bar' would run out of dark rum? My 'Dark & Stormy' was neither dark nor stormy. Whatever white rum was used was bland and indistinct. Neither me or my brother could detect liquor in the drink. It just tasted like ginger beer with ice. I wasn't even told they were out of Dark Rum or asked if I would prefer a different cocktail. I was just given a cocktail that was not what I ordered. I personally would have preferred another cocktail made with the proper ingredients.
Our party ordered the fish & chips, pan seared sea bass, crab cake sandwich and crispy fried white shrimp. All of us were very pleased with our dishes. Our server was prompt, friendly and attentive.
We will definitely return. Hopefully dark rum stock replenished and not-a-fly-in-sight.
We also ordered wings with the "zesty Thai sweet chili sauce" - they tasted like they were slathered in mayonnaise - there was no taste of sweet chili and nothing remotely "Thai" about this sauce.
When we got there we were told it would be about 1& half hr wait. The place was packed and we sat in the sand chairs listening to the music, enjoying our drink. After about an hour & half we checked with the desk to see how much longer & we were told there were still 12 people ahead of us, what!? They couldn't find a table for 2? We left & went to Andres around the corner, also busy but wait was quick. I really liked the atmosphere of Laguna but i dont think they're very organized
Like many restaurants at the beach Laguna Grill doesn't take reservations. And like most establishments everywhere your entire party must be present before seating.
Parking: We arrived with several cars. There is a parking lot. Signs say ' Legacy Vacation Club.' Parking is free valet. Some of us also found easy residential parking less than a block away.
Laguna Grill & Rum Bar offer delicious prepared food and drinks. Our bartender, the host and our server were all friendly.
$12 dollar drinks. Tasted watered down. Found a spider in the cup after drinking half of it. Owner refused to address the problem. Did not offer a refund, replace the drink or even an apology. Instead, directed us to find a floor manager. When a floor manager was nowhere to be found was told to leave as he sat in his office with friends smoking his cigar. Way overpriced, terrible food, horrible drinks, bugs and completely disrespectful.
Convenient food when you're staying at the Legacy Vacation Suites, and honestly the Crab & Shrimp pizza is fantastic. However the "rum" drinks are amazingly overpriced for what they are. If you're going to advertise yourself as a "Rum Bar" let alone go as far as to make it a part of the name of your restaurant, you should have a dazzling selection of different brands of Rum, not just a few "Rum-based" drinks. The first night I ordered the Rum Runner, our pizza came to the table first, and by the time we got our drinks, my frozen Rum Runner was separating and thawing at the bottom of the cup. Tonight my husband and I both ordered the "Signature" Mojito. We were sadly disappointed that the mint wasn't even muddled into the drink and you could barely taste the Rum. At $11.99 per drink (in plastic cups, even inside the building) I felt really ripped off.
Other drinks at our table like, white sangria and variety of beers, were all tastey and very cold.
This is the first time in several years that we've given this restaurant another try - and mainly we went because friends were visiting with us while we are on vacation. I doubt we'll be coming back during the rest of our stay as there are other, far better, restaurants on the island. (A timeshare patron of the Resort for past 30 years.)
It was strange to me that only half of the restaurant was open on a Saturday evening. Also strange was that a restaurant on the beach would not have fly control under wraps. Dear Management, please purchase 'Victor' Fly Traps. These are all natural and safe. The traps are placed outside the establishment luring flies away with pheromones.
